This cake is so realistic and so completely edible...
easy to make because all the decorations on the cake
(daffodils, chicks, easter eggs)
are ready-made, ready-to-use colorful
shaped edible hard sugar decorations.
Decorating directions listed below
the photo of this Easter Basket Cake.
This cake used 2 and one half 8" round cake layers. In a production setting and for speed and ease of handling, ice single layer, top and sides, flip onto a parchment doily, ice the bottom, and then freeze the layer. (this will make 2 cake handles).
With the use of a digital camera, photograph a basket weave pattern from a real basket, and format it to be 13-1/2" long and 2-3/4" wide, you will need 2 of these. Format basket weave also into one strip 13-1/2" long and 1-1/2" high for the handle. Print these out on one #41102 Print-Ons Sheets. Trim into strips. This will finish one cake.
Ice double layer cake, cut your frozen iced layer in half and stand up in center of cake for handle. Apply Edible Image Print-Ons sheet around sides of cake and over handle. Airbrush Lucks Liquid Color Green #10162. Pipe Stems and Leaves with green icing. Add green colored coconut. To get the glistening effect of the Easter basket grass, sprinkle your coconut with a little Multi-Color Edible Glitter #30278.
Finish with appropriate edible Hard Sugar Decorations shown above. Pipe a finishing border around edges of cake with a #8 plain round tip and light chocolate or tan buttercream icing. Use a reverse teardrop border to simulate the basketweave.
