3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

On low speed, beat in flour mixture until a dough forms. Remove one-fourth of dough; add cocoa powder to form chocolate dough. Chill both doughs for 10 minutes.
Shape plain dough into a 5-inch-long log. On a floured surface, using a floured rolling pin, roll chocolate dough to a 9x6 inch rectangle. Place plain dough in center of chocolate dough. Wrap chocolate dough around plain dough, gently pressing seams to seal.
Wrap dough in waxed paper. Flatten sides of dough to form a square. Chill dough for 2 hours. Be sure dough is chilled enough - if it is too soft it will be very hard to slice.
