Peanut Butter... Let's Make Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter.....
Let's Make....
PEANUT BUTTER

I have never made peanut butter and I am a grandmother, never too late to try.
This turned out to be a fun recipe, great for kids and grandchildren with parent's help.
If your children have friends help them, can you imagine them telling their parents
they made.... PEANUT BUTTER?

How fun is that?

This would be a great activity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,
Brownies, Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, YMCA and other youth groups, too.

Ahead of time, have ready an assortment of items to eat the peanut butter with when it is finished... such as celery sticks, crackers, bread slices (and provide flower or animal cookie cutter shapes so the kids can have fun sandwiches).  If you set out bread, add a bowl of jelly so kids can make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, hmmm good!  Once the shells are removed from the peanuts, the actual peanut butter is ready in minutes!  No kidding, it is that easy.

Read the recipe out loud and let the kids get all the ingredients,
measuring spoons, measuring cups, and food processor.

Ingredients:
1 pound roasted peanuts in shells (grocery store)
1/8 cup butter or margarine
1/8 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons molasses
1/8 cup water

Directions:
Remove shells from the roasted peanuts and throw the shells away.  (If the shells are removed very carefully, they can be used later for an arts n' crafts project).

Did you see Woody the Woodpecker
after gently prying the peanut apart...
there he is, right at the top of one side of the peanut...
I always loved finding Woody when I ate peanuts at football games.

Place 2 cups of raw peanuts directly into the food processor.

Add butter or margarine, corn syrup, salt and molasses to the peanuts.

Process the peanuts and other ingredients ( like the pulsing method) until the mixture is smooth, a couple of minutes.

If the peanut butter mixture is too thick or dry, simply add a drop or two of water and pulse the food processor until the water is blended completely into the mixture.  Continue with dabs of water until the peanut butter is the consistency desired.

That's it, peanut butter is done.

ENJOY....
