Is Shrek Irish? We're not sure, but here's some ideas for an Irish party including Shrek! Bound to be loads of fun for everyone!

Shrek Party Supplies

Invitations:

Make a four leaf clover out of cardstock. Write party details on the back.

Or print out copies of the Irish flag and decorate with Shrek stickers.

Or use ready made Shrek invitations

Ask guests to come dressed in green.

Decorations:

Hang a Shrek themed banner that reads, "Welcome to the Land of Far Far Away". Or one that reads, "Happy St. Patrick's Day".

Play Irish music in the background.

Everything green. Table covers, balloons (you may even be able to find shamrock shaped balloons), streamers, plates, cups, etc.

Or decorate with Shrek party decorations and mylar and shaped balloons.

Hang shamrock garland.

Any St. Patrick's Day decorations will do.

Enlarge pics of the characters and set up around party area.

Fill a kiddie pool(s) with water and tint water green for a miniature swamp pool.

Green party lightbulb in party room or entrance to party.

Green carnations in a vase can be a centerpiece.

Make a paper machie rock (Blarney Stone) and add lipstick kisses to it. Set it at the party entrance and post a sign that reads, "Blarney Stone-Kiss for Good Luck". You can also use a real rock for this.

Pass out "Kiss me, I'm Irish" buttons or sticker name tags to your guests as they arrive. Make everyone wear them. You may even want to pass out hats or beaded St. Patrick's Day necklaces (like Mardi Gras beads).

Or have pair of Shrek ears or a Princess Tiara for each guest.

Make them before the party but wait to secure the ends until the children arrive for proper fit.

You'll need large sheets of light and dark green craft foam or construction paper, craft glue or a hot glue gun, glitter glue or a glitter pen and a stapler.

Cut two ears, two small triangles for the inside of the ears and a long strip for the head band. Attach the small triangles to the ears with a glue gun then attach the ears to the head band. With the glitter pen, write the guests name on the front. Staple the ends of the head band together when the children arrive.

For princess crowns purchase paper tiaras in your party supplies section and let the girls decorate using sequins, glitter glues, etc. Or use this pattern to cut out of cardstock.

You can also purchase Shrek ogre ears or princess Fiona tiaras already made from The Party Works.

Cake or Cupcakes:

Make a sheet cake and frost with green icing. Sprinkle with colored sugar or edible glitter. Decorate with Shrek toy figures or a Shrek cake topper.

Cupcakes with green icing..use food coloring to tint frosting...use it to make the cupcakes green too. Top with Shrek ears and logos picks or Shrek and Donkey rings cake decorations.

Food and Snacks:

Use green leprachuaun hats turned upside down to hold snacks.

Dye foods green, use spray mists to add colors to other foods and snacks.

You can dye mashed potatoes green.

Serve some pesto.

Make sandwiches cut into shamrock shapes using a cookie cutter.

Make shamrock shaped sugar cookies and sprinkle with green colored sugars.

Serve rootbeer out of mugs.

Irish punch. Place lime sherbet in a punch bowl with ice and pour Sprite or 7 Up over it. Serve. You might also want to freeze some gummi worms into ice cubes to float in the punch.

Guacamole and Chips- slime and chips.

Green jello- slime. You can even make jello jigglers in the shape of a shamrock.

Lucky Charms cereal snack mix. Mix some Lucky Charms with Chex Mix to make a "lucky" snack mix.

Hot Sludge Sundaes (mint ice cream with hot fudge topped with gummi worms).

Goodie Bags and Prizes:

Use green paper sacks or Shrek theme favor bags. Put in green slime, green sour punch straws, mini can of green Playdoh, a small box of Lucky Charms, a rabbit's foot, a four leaf clover, glow in the dark glow sticks, yoyos, etc., Shrek themed party favors like glow in the dark bounce balls, Shrek Ogre Ooze, and party blow outs and Shrek and Donkey rings.

You can also purchase premade Shrek goody bags from The Party Works.

Games and Activities:
Pass the Blarney Stone. Played like hot potato.

Search for the Pot of Gold. Set up a scavenger hunt to lead to a cauldron full of chocolate coins.

Rent a video on the Irish Jig and/or Irish Dancing and have everyone dance along.

Cupcake Walk. Use character markers for this game. Print out pictures of the characters(ie. Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots, Donkey, Prince Charming, Gingy, etc.) onto cardstock. Arrange the pictures in a circle on the ground. Make enough markers for everyone. Write the characters names on small pieces of paper and put into a jar, basket, box, etc. Play some Irish tunes. Everyone moves to the marker ahead until the music stops. Everyone should be on a marker. Draw a name. Guest standing on corresponding marker wins and is out of the game. Game continues until every child wins. Prizes for this game could be cupcakes frosted in "green" icing or decorate with green colored sugars or candies.

Make green slime. Use 1 part liquid starch, 2 parts Elmer's Glue, and green food coloring. Mix and enjoy.

Pin the tail on Donkey.

Hidden lottery tickets. Hide the tickets around the house prior to your guests arrival. If the luck of the Irish is with them, your guests will enjoy finding the tickets while enjoying the party. Anyone who finds a ticket, gets to keep it. You can also hide gold coins around the party area for the kids to find. Set up
some kind of prize booth where they can trade their coins for prizes.

Pot O' Gold Toss. Toss bean bags into a black cauldron. Guests win gold coins from "the pot".
